Luna aceasta se va desfășura întrecerea de la Pikes Peak, cea mai cunoscută și importantă cursă de hillclimb din istorie. Pentru ediția din acest an, Hyundai va participa oficial cu 4 mașini, toate fiind exemplare ale hot hatch-ului electric Ioniq 5 N. Dintre acestea, două sunt nemodificate, iar celelalte două exemplare primesc o serie de schimbări importante.
Astfel, constructorul sud-coreean a dezvăluit noul Ioniq 5 N TA Spec, o mașină pregătită special pentru această urcare. Față de versiunea de serie, noul model de concurs primește un pachet aerodinamic foarte agresiv, cu un spoiler față masiv și cu un eleron la fel de mare pentru a oferi cât mai multă forță de apăsare la altitudini de peste 1000 de metri.
Modelul de concurs mai primește și jante speciale de 18 inch încălțate în anvelope slick Yokohama. În spatele lor se ascund frâne cu etriere cu 6 pistoane în față, respectiv cu 4 pistoane în spate.
Puterea va fi oferită de două motoare electrice care dezvoltă 687 de cai putere. Propulsorul este neschimbat față de modelul de stradă, singura diferență fiind reprezentată de o remapare software pentru mai multă putere. Propulsorul este alimentat cu o baterie de 84 de kWh, iar în condiții optime, acumulatorul va putea fi încărcat de la 10% la 80% în 18 minute, la un curent de 350 kW. Noul model de concurs mai primește o suspensie specială cu amortizoare reglabile în 3 direcții.
Pentru că este o mașină electrică, noul Hyundai Ioniq 5 N TA Spec primește și sistemul N Active Sound+ cu difuzoare modificate pentru a fi folosite pe post de sirenă. Această sirenă de peste 120 dB îi va avertiza pe spectatori de apropierea mașinii.
Ediția din acest an a urcării de la Pikes Peak va avea loc în 23 iunie. Întrecerea se va desfășura pe o pistă de 20 de kilometri aflată permanent în urcare. Linia de sosire se află la o altitudine de 1438 de metri. Cele două mașini de concurs vor fi pilotate de Robin Shute, de 4 ori câștigător în Pikes Peak și de către Dani Sordo, pilot în Campionatul Mondial de Raliuri.
